Bargaining Update and Pride event
Dear Members,
I hope that all is well with you, and that you have had some time to enjoy the good weather.
Bargaining Update
I wanted to give you an update of how things are going in bargaining, on behalf of your Negotiating Team. Thanks very much to all of you who responded to our recent brief survey. It was very helpful in responding to the administration’s proposal.
The FA Team has been working hard on developing detailed proposals to present to the administration on your behalf at the bargaining table. We have brought forward significant proposals related to workload and evaluation matters. We are currently heading in promising directions in our work with the administration in simplifying and clarifying timelines for peer reviews. We have also presented proposals related to study leave, including equitable study leave between teaching and research faculty and librarians, and the right to not return after a study leave or administrative leave, if the member commits to a firm retirement date following study leave or administrative leave. We have proposed language that would affirm commitments to the Scarborough Charter on Black inclusion and flourishing in the Collective Agreement. We have also put forward proposals clarifying our collegial governance rights, seeking more open and regular communication channels with the senior administration, and proposing changes to the current grievance process. We look forward to seeing the administration’s bargaining team’s response to these proposals.
Pride Event
We also wanted to share with you an invitation from the UVic Pride Caucus, a group of 2SLGBTQIA+ UVic staff and faculty:
The Pride Caucus warmly invites all faculty to join us for the raising of the Progressive Pride Flag on Thursday, June 26th, from 4:00 to 4:30 p.m. at the flagpoles along Ring Road, just outside the Jamie Cassels Centre.
This will be an informal gathering featuring drag artists, light refreshments, and plenty of Pride spirit. All are welcome, and dressing colourfully is highly encouraged!
After the flag is raised, we’ll head over to the Grad House for a lively round of Drag Bingo with fabulous performers Vivian Vanderpuss and PM.
This event is free and open to all. Come celebrate with us!
