Workshop for Early in Career Faculty

At this workshop, we will discuss strategies that will help you to achieve reappointment, tenure and promotion, or continuing appointment and promotion. There will also be opportunities for us to answer other questions you may have as an early in career faculty member, particularly in this time of COVID. Further, we will be asking you what additional supports you might be looking for from the Association.

The workshop will begin with a panel presentation featuring Nathan Lachowsky, a recently promoted associate professor in the School of Public Health and Social Policy, and Svetlana Oshkai, a recently promoted associate teaching professor in Mathematics and Statistics, who will discuss their experience of working towards and gaining promotion.

In addition, Lynne Marks, FA President, and Reuben Kellen, FA Membership Services Advisor, will provide information about the reappointment, continuing appointment, and promotion process, and will offer advice about planning for success in your early years as a faculty member.

Following the presentations and general discussion, we will have breakout rooms for separate discussions for research stream faculty, teaching stream faculty and for those faculty who have just been hired at UVic.
