Research Presentation: Dr. Martin Cannon

Dr. Lisa Kahaleole Hall and Dr. Martin Cannon are being considered for the position of Director of the Indigenous Studies program at the University of Victoria.

The search committee, which includes members from the Humanities, Social Sciences and Indigenous communities, invites you to attend research presentations by each candidate on May 4 and 9, respectively. There will be time for audience questions and attendees will have an opportunity to provide written feedback on the candidate for consideration by the appointment committee.

Note: An open-house meeting for Indigenous students, staff and faculty, as well as any local community members who want to meet the candidate, will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. at First Peoples House, Room 160.

Bio: Martin Cannon is Onyota’a:ka (Oneida Nation), Turtle Clan, and a citizen of the Six Nations at Grand River Territory. He is Associate Professor of Social Justice Education at OISE/ University of Toronto. He is the co-author of Racism, Colonialism, and Indigeneity in Canada, published in its second edition by Oxford University Press in fall, 2017. He is also an author of the manuscript (Re-) Storying Indigenous Masculinity and Indian Act Patriarchy: An Interlocking Approach (UBC Press, forthcoming 2018).
